The standards applicable to electrical installations in Spain

08 April 2020

The REBT regulation

The REBT regulation, completely approved in 2002 and partially modified since then, is the most important requirement for calculating electrical installations in Spain. It concerns every installation, either if it is a new conception, or if an existing one is modified. The full text of this regulation is mandatory, as well as other UNE and IEC standards mentioned in it.

The REBT regulation, divided into Complementary technical instructions (ITC), as well as UNE standards, is very close to standard series IEC 60364, in terms of structure and content. It integrates also some particularities to use at the national level, particularly in terms of voltage drop values (ITC-BT-25) and calculations for motors (ITC-BT-47).

The installations must be designed and executed so that people and equipment safety is assured.

A REBT COMPLIANT INSTALLATION USING ELEC CALC™

Calculation methods used by elec calc™ software are based on people and equipment safety principles, as well as on every statement defined in REBT 2002 and those defined as mandatory in UNE. High voltage calculations follow the equivalent regulation RAT. The software considers overcurrent and short-circuit protections, cable sizing according to the power balance of the installation, calculated in real-time from the single-line diagram. For every electrical installation designer in Spain, installation is assured to be safe and compliant.

A DC (direct current) module is available in elec calc ™ for sizing parts of installations supplied by rectifiers, batteries, and rectifier/battery assemblies.

elec calc™ also has a BIM module which makes it possible to integrate the electrical project into a BIM process by favoring communication with the various stakeholder’s thanks to standard collaboration formats (IFC and BCF).
